LET'S SPARK A LOVE OF READING!

The À GO, on lit! (AGOL) campaign is back! Until November 26, dive into a host of new content with our ambassadors Kevin Raphael, Claudie Mercier, Justin Morissette, and Nabil Queen! Together, let’s show teens and young adults—especially non-readers—that reading is anything but boring!

Inspiring reading corners, contests, events, and AGOL book activities… the possibilities are endless!
Make À GO, on lit! a fun and engaging tool for reaching young people: create activities, including French as a Second Language (FSL) activities, in classrooms, in libraries, or your own communities. We can’t wait to see your amazing initiatives and, once again this year, watch reading shine among teens!

Workplace Literacy: The Project is Underway!

It’s official! R3USSIR and the Maison régionale de l’industrie are launching the project “Lire, compter, cliquer : les clés de l’implantation d’un système en entreprise”, a literacy initiative designed for workplaces integrating digital or technological transformation systems to enhance their performance.

Developed in collaboration with multiple intersectoral and inter-level partners, the project aims to equip stakeholders who work with companies implementing new systems, in order to raise awareness about the importance of strengthening digital literacy skills. Targeted instructional content and communication tools will also be created to support the development of digital literacy skills in the workplace.

An innovative and complementary initiative, the project will run until September 2027.

On October 8, R3USSIR was proud to participate in the first edition of Estrie Economic Day 2025, organized by the Chambre de commerce et de l'industrie Haute-Yamaska. The event brought together over 200 leaders, entrepreneurs, and regional development stakeholders for strategic discussions on the economic future of our territory.

We actively contributed to discussions on digital transformation, attracting and retaining talent, and the skills of the future. These issues are at the heart of our mission: the economic future of Estrie and the productivity of our businesses depend on a workforce that is skilled, competent, and fulfilled.

Literacy in Estrie: Where Do We Stand?

According to the most recent study by the Fondation pour l'alphabétisation, 53.4% of the Estrie population aged 15 and over does not reach Level 3 literacy on the  Programme pour l’évaluation internationale des compétences des adultes (PEICA) —an improvement of 1.6% since 2016.

The Sherbrooke agglomeration (50.5%) and the Memphrémagog RCM (51.8%) stand out positively.

Impact of an Interactive Reading Program on Maintaining Learning for 6- to 8-Year-Old Students in Vulnerable Situations During the Summer

To counter the effects of the “summer slide” and support students’ academic progress, a research team from the Université du Québec à Montréal developed the project “Lecture interactive avec moi” (LIAM). This program, focused on interactive reading, aimed to prevent learning loss among 6- to 8-year-old children in vulnerable situations.

The study showed that LIAM’s interactive reading and literacy activities help students maintain their reading skills over the summer. The results also highlight the influence of the environment, with the family context being particularly effective in supporting literacy learning, especially in vocabulary development.

Framework: The School Library at the Heart of Learning

In 2024, the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec published its first official reference framework, highlighting its commitment to making the school library a vibrant, inclusive space at the heart of student success.

This framework presents a structured vision around four key dimensions—collaboration and qualified staff, resources, services, and environments—and provides guidelines for organizing the different areas of the library.

A Closer Look at the Academic Success of Men in Higher Education in Estrie

The Pôle régional en enseignement supérieur de l'Estrie (PRESE) commissioned a research team led by Prof. Eddy Supeno from the Québec Network Chair for Youth to document the success and persistence of male postsecondary students.

The project includes a literature review, a statistical overview of Estrie, and interviews with students and professionals working with students. The work aims to better understand the obstacles they face and to identify actionable strategies to support their success.
